Hello and welcome to ECG! I am delighted to share with you the genesis of how our firm came together and our current activity.

During the summer of 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, I discovered that two of my friends had overlapping backgrounds in emerging market development. Laurent Rotroff has spent over 15 years building a world class ecosystem of high level business, government, and financing connections for both corporate innovation and early stage investment. Daniel Ryan went to Africa on assignment for the World Bank and wound up staying for 12 years building a business ecosystem with his future wife whom he met while in Malawi. Realizing they may have synergistic opportunities to share with each other, I set up a Zoom call to make the introduction. The call went so well that Daniel, as we were closing, said “Hey, why don’t we raise an innovation fund for India and Africa early stage investment”?

Thus was born Equatorius Capital Group (our name stems from Laurent’s company Equatorius LLC). Our team combines institutional and seed to Series A investment experience, entrepreneurship, and deep networks. We are currently engaged in the following activities:

1. Sourcing and securing limited partners for our first fund ($50M US)

2. Evaluating deal flow from Daniel and Laurent’s deep networks in Africa and India

3. Building an advisory board and engaging strategic partners

One of the unique attributes of our fund is our ability to offer limited partners an ‘experiential’ investment opportunity. By that I mean, ECG provides first class experiences inside each region to meet and observe our investees, their teams, and the customers they serve. In addition, we can arrange meetings with high level government and business contacts. This type of access is hard to come by; we feel this distinguishes us from other venture/private equity funds
